Registration for 2012 Classes Now Open!

2012 launches our next series of classes. We will begin with the introductory classes required to progress to our intermediate and advanced classes in computer programming, game design, and robotics. Classes open to students age 5-17.

No prior experience necessary. Our initial 6-week classes (below) are designed to introduce and guide you in acquiring the basic skills needed to advance. We encourage you to enroll in this pre-requisite series so you are prepared to enjoy additional classes designed to help you master skills in classes offered later. All classes are held at 'The Lab' - our 1500 D Street, SE, WDC location.

Students are given time to complete homework before classes starts. We encourage you to bring appropriate snacks. Questions? Please let us know.

Enroll your 5, 6, 7 year old child in this introduction to building class. We will introduce students to design and construction with Legos and other computer-based tools. Your child will begin to explore his/her imagination and creativity. With that and eye-hand coordination, young builders will learn to design and build various objects. This class is a great introduction to engineering for this age group. Register now!

Computer programming is all around us. It's at the core of those useful and entertaining parts of our daily lives. Imagine yourself creating and controlling even more useful and entertaining programs - games, animations, even mobile apps. This class is the first step in doing this just. It provides each student with a solid foundation of computer programming and what it takes to make the imagined become real. This class features one instructional (Tuesdays) and one lab day (Wednesdays) per week and is a pre-requisite for progressing on to all other programming sessions (e.g. game design, app development, etc.).

Robots are amazing - but not many people know how to build them.  President Obama started the National Robotics Initiative this past summer.  Enroll in this class to get acquainted robots - what they are made of, what they can do, and how to make them move! This class features one instructional (Thursdays) and one lab day (Saturdays) per week.

In this intermediate course, we will work towards developing specific apps designed for all mobile platforms. This class is offered to students who have already participated in the 2010-2011 session of Youth APPLab. However, if you have some programming experience, please contact us to determine course eligibility.
