NEWARKLIVE.com is a web project geared towards and designed by Newark’s high school students. This exciting project falls under the FreeStyleNEXT™ umbrella of programs sponsored by Uplift, Inc., a newly established nonprofit organization in Newark, NJ.

FreeStyleNEXT™ focuses on Art, Technology, and Literacy. Its foundation embraces the popular HIP-HOP concept of “free-styling” born in the 1980s.

Free-styling involves improvising words and concepts while rapping as opposed to thinking of them beforehand. It is very similar to improvisational music playing, except what results are creative lyrics which rhyme and/or tell a story as opposed to music. FreeStyleNEXT™ is intended for HIP-HOP’s next generation and takes “free-styling” to the next level by teaching, encouraging, and using creativity in visual art, computer technology, and various forms of creative writing to produce exceptional and tangible masterpieces.

NEWARKLIVE.com combines these three components – art, technology, and literacy - into one extremely stimulating opportunity for the youth and other residents of Newark as well as all those connected to the Internet!
