About Us

Uplift, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit and was founded in 1998 in New Jersey. We recently opened a second office in Washington, DC. Especially interested in the celebration and enhancement of learning for all ages, the staff of Uplift has launched several interesting technology-based initiatives and other programs, and has worked with various organizations over the past 10 years - including: the Urban League of Essex County, The Juxtopia Urban Learning Technology Conference - JULT2010, Arts & Technology Academy Charter School of DC,, KIPPDC|Aim Academy, and Young Ladies of Tomorrow to name a few.

Uplift's goals are:

  1. To provide safe out-of-school activities and environments for children with opportunities for self and creative expression, development in social and leadership skills, and educational achievement, as well as vocational and career skills ready for the 21 st century marketplace;
  2. To research and develop educational media and learning technology for students to improve and enhance their overall educational achievement, cognitive awareness; and preparation for the skill demands of the 21 st century marketplace;
  3. To offer families, teachers and other adult community members innovative trainings, tools, and resources to support themselves, their families, and their classrooms; and
  4. To establish partnerships with like-organizations for a broader impact.

Center for Learning and Educational Media (CLEM)

At the heart of Uplift is the Center for Learning and Educational Media. CLEM specifically examines the use of technology in urban learning environments. The findings are used to develop and present improved strategies, products, and services geared towards integrating technology into overall classroom curricula, out-of-school settings, and at home. As a result, CLEM contributes to ensuring successful learning experiences throughout school systems (PreK-12), after-school programs, and other out-of-school initiatives within urban communities.

We are currently working on Teach Me, research and development of educational media for PreK-3rd grade students.

Goals:

  1. To determine current practices relating to technology use in teaching and learning in Urban school districts and neighborhoods out-of-school programs;
  2. To evaluate current practices and generate new strategies for improved technology integration into these learning environments;
  3. To recommend and develop customized technology to enhance and encourage learning and exploration - especially in STEM fields (Science Technology Engineering and Math); and
  4. To provide adequate and customized professional development for schoolteachers and other instructors.
